Hartley Gilbert & Sullivan Society

About Us

In 1996 Hartley WIGS (Women's Institute choir and Guest Singers) became an independent society when the WI decided they no longer wanted to run the show. The society members decided they wanted to continue and under the new name of Hartley G&S Society the first production in May of 1996 was The Mikado. The society continued more or less as it had done before putting on a production every May in the Hartley WI Hall. In the autumn of 2000 the society did their first Gilbert and Sullivan from scratch charity concert where singers would come together and spend a day rehearsing one of the Savoy Operas for a concert performance with narration in the evening. The Mikado from Scratch proved very successful and has repeated almost every year since. Rehearsals are on Tuesday nights at the Hartley WI Hall from 8pm till 10pm. We rehearse from early December through to May.
